UPDATE - August 15, 2009: Microsoft has fixed the Paypal module issue (a pleasant surprise!). If you have added the SoftPrizm Quick Fix to your web page, you will need to remove the Custom Footer module used for the Quick Fix in order for the Paypal module to work correctly again.

Microsoft Office Live Small Business Bug Alert:
Paypal module stopped functioning correctly

On August 13, 2009, the Paypal module on Microsoft Office Live Small Business stopped functioning correctly. This was due to the introduction of erroneous code generated by the Paypal module, crippling the proper functioning of Paypal buttons.  Due to the usual slow response time from Microsoft to fix any problems on the Office Live Small Business platform, SoftPrizm, has taken the initiative to release and share a quick fix for this issue. As a long-standing contributing member of the Office Live community, SoftPrizm feels that it is of the utmost importance to quickly restore the Paypal module to a functioning state to minimize any disruption to your online business. We hope that Microsoft will do its part and be committed to repairing this issue as soon as possible.

The SoftPrizm Quick Fix for the Paypal module

  1. Right-click on the link paypalFix.xsl and select Save Target As.... Save the file to your desktop. Upload paypalFix.xsl to your Documents Gallery.

  2. Open the web page where you have Paypal module(s) in Page Editor, go to the very bottom of the page and insert a Custom Footer module.

  3. Select the Link to an XSLT file radio button, and click on the Select file... button. Find paypalFix.xsl in the list and select it. Press OK and then OK.

  4. You should now see a small, blue dotted-box. Right-click on box and select Properties. This should bring up the Custom Footer box again. Check to make sure that the Link to an XSLT file radio button is still selected. This step is necessary as there is an unfixed bug with the Custom modules. If you see that the Edit XSLT code radio button is selected instead, just repeat Step 3 again. Otherwise, if the Link to an XSLT file radio button is still selected, just press Cancel.

  5. Save your web page and view it. You should have Paypal buttons that work now.

  6. Repeat Steps 2 to 5 if you have other web pages with Paypal modules. This Quick Fix works for an unlimited number of buttons on each web page.

If Microsoft gets around to fixing this problem, all you have to do is remove the Custom Footer module you have just added. It's simple as that!
